While in Guatemala on Trip #3 Amber and Todd hiked Volcan Pacaya along with Emily Armstrong, her dad Bill, her brother Billy and Billy's friend Blair. It took about 1.5 hours to hike up to the lava flow and then we spent about 30 minutes walking on it. It was a weird feeling walking on the flow as we inched closer to the hot lava. It seemed like the soles of our shoes were melting as the heat baked our ankles. Since there was a light rain, there was steam coming from the ground and the rocks hissed as we went along. Amber got close enough to poke her walking stick into the hot lava flow.
